Receiving or giving a massage with any of the many number of massage techniques can be a very therapeutic thing. Stress is the number one offender to our systems and can literally kill you if you don’t know how to release it from your body. Below you will find a few of the many massage techniques that can help heal your body and your mind and free you from the daily stresses you suffer from.

Back Massage Techniques: Using the common effleurage technique of a smooth and rhythmic motion, a back massage can gently relieve pressure on the spine and improve circulation throughout the entire body.

Deep Tissue Massage Techniques: A slow focused and deep pressure applied to any trouble areas can help release toxins and overtime knots that have accumulated due to stress and everyday activities.

Facial Massage Techniques: Facial massage promotes relaxation and relieves tension and the benefits can be felt throughout the entire body. These massages are generally shorter in length to avoid stretching or lengthening the facial muscles. Gentle touch is used to increase circulation and each location is worked softly from the forehead to the chin.

Neck Massage Techniques: The first step involves relaxing the neck and back muscles, to better receive the massage. Gently squeeze or knead the shoulders for about a minute. As you gently squeeze the shoulder, raise the shoulder toward the ears, hold for a few seconds and lower back down. Rub the back of the neck in a circular motion, begin at the base of the neck and work towards the skull.

Body Massage Techniques: Massaging the body can incorporate many different techniques, including deep tissue massage techniques as well as Swedish massage techniques. Basic massage techniques include fan, circular and thumb stroking, basic kneading, circular pressure, static pressure, cat stroking and knuckling.

Any number of massage techniques can be used to improve your quality of life. Receiving a massage will help you reduce stress and increase the flow of oxygen to your body. Giving massages can also be good for the soul as the gentle rhythm of a massage has a calming affect on both the masseuse as well as the one receiving the massage. Back massage, facial massage, neck massage and deep tissue massage techniques can all be used in combination to create a body massage that will get you ready to face the world all over again, almost as if you were reborn.

A deep tissue massage uses many of the same massage techniques as Swedish massage, simply with more focus and intensity on any troublesome areas.

A deep tissue massage uses many of the same massage techniques as Swedish massage, simply with more focus and intensity on any troublesome areas. Many people want to know whether or not a deep tissue massage is going to hurt, and while it may be more painful that a traditional Swedish massage, the amount of pressure applied can still be specified to your own comfort level. One should never be afraid to speak up during a massage to let the therapist know what amount of pressure is acceptable.

Deep Tissue Massage Technique

In a deep tissue massage, the goal is to realign the deep muscle layers and connecting tissues in painful, stiff joints. While this massage technique can cause discomfort at first, it doesn’t usually last for longer than 24 hours, and the overall benefits outweigh the discomfort considerably. Many medical problems can be greatly affected by a deep tissue massage, including muscle spasms, fibromyalgia, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis and more.

The massage technique is an extremely slow focused massage on any given area of the body that experiences pain or muscle tension. Inflammation and joint pain can be a result of extremely tight muscles and a deep tissue massage can help alleviate these symptoms.

While any massage can help someone relax, a deep tissue massage using specific massaging techniques that are focused, slower and deeper can help heal troubled areas. Since deep tissue massage therapy can help increase blood flow and the release of toxins, it can be a little uncomfortable at first, but once the area has been released and any knot slowly removed over time, the result can be quite freeing.

The use of deep tissue massage techniques aren’t always recommended however and should not be used if you are pregnant, have heart disease, if you have osteoporosis, have recently broken a bone or had an operation, if you have a tumor, hernia or have a rash or viral infection or if you have an open would or bruising.

Results from a deep tissue massage are not instantaneous either, you cannot possibly heal or remove a knot entirely from one session, nor would you want to as this would cause a considerable amount of discomfort. But with a variety of sessions targeting troublesome areas, the benefits of using deep tissue massage techniques can be highly effective in relieving pain and/or tension.

As with all other forms of massage, facial massage techniques vary depending on where you receive them. However, the common thread among all facial massages is that their benefits can be seen and felt almost immediately. Getting a facial massage on a regular basis or giving yourself one can keep your skin looking younger, can make it smoother and firmer and ultimately more beautiful.

How is Facial Massage Able to Do This?

Facial massage and massage techniques in general release tension, increase circulation and reduce impurities and toxins. Therefore facial massage techniques can minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and normalizes the moisture balance as well as tightens the facial muscles.

Massage Techniques for Facial Massage

Whether you are getting a massage from someone or giving yourself one at home, the techniques are the same. The length is very important, a facial massage shouldn’t last for more than 20 minutes otherwise it is possible to stretch or lengthen the facial muscles. Also be aware of any skin sensitivities you have before getting a facial massage. Sensitive skin is more easily damaged or irritated, so beware of what is being used on your face and the amount of pressure that is used.

A gentle touch is very important. Pressure should never be exerted and special care should be taken around the neck area. Softly work the different areas of the face, always moving in an upward motion.

Benefits from Facial Massage Techniques

Massaging the forehead and nose helps to reduce the appearance of horizontal lines. The nostrils are massaged to unclog pores and prevent blemishes. The mouth and cheeks can be rubbed to help prevent wrinkles and sagging facial muscles. The area around the eyes are rubbed to prevent wrinkles and get rid of heavy bags. And the chin and neck are rubbed to strengthen facial muscles and hopefully prevent a double chin from forming. Lastly, the ears are massaged and pulled back as they are a pressure points that stimulate the rest of the body.

To put your best face forward each and every day, treat yourself to a facial massage from time to time, either from a professional or from yourself. Try it for a few months and see the different in the appearance of fine lines, the strength of your facial muscles and the overall glow that your face will emit. It is also a great way to do something special for yourself, it only takes 20 minutes, but the benefits will astound you.

We’ve all experienced the uncomfortable feeling of a knot in our shoulders and neck. Work stress, family and home life stress can take its toll, for this reason it is very important to take some time for yourself and get a massage or at the very least benefit from some easy neck massage techniques.

You can receive a neck massage from a professional or a loved one, but it is important to be in a comfortable position when receive the massage or else the benefits from the massage techniques for neck pain will not be achieved. For instance, someone can rub your shoulders for hours and you won’t feel any relief if the neck massage was given while you were in an uncomfortable state. If your muscles cannot relax, the tension they are experiencing from life will not be able to go away no matter how hard someone tries.

So find a comfortable place, even a chair will do as long as you are positioned properly to achieve the best results from the neck and shoulder massage techniques. To get situated just right, straddle a chair backwards and place a pillow between you and the chair so that you can rest your head and chin over the pillow. Make sure the chair is high enough so that the person giving the massage does no have to strain themselves in order to massage your neck. Have them stand slightly at an angle with their knees bent and with good posture.

Another option of course is a massage table, but anything else will probably not do. Lying on a bed can make matters much worse as you will have to turn your head to the side, which strains your neck muscles even more. So before you take the time to get a massage, make sure you have picked out a suitable location that is not only fine for you, but also fine for the massage giver.

Once you have found that perfect place, relax. Let all of the tension seep from your body and thoroughly connect with the person giving you the massage. Make sure the pressure is to your liking and is not hurting you at all, the neck massage technique, if done properly should be strictly relaxing and cause you no pain. If the pressure applied is ever too much for you, be sure to speak up. While deep tissue massage can be beneficial, especially if you have a particularly troublesome area, it should never cause you so much discomfort that the massage has caused you further stress. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids after any massage as this will help flush the toxins from your body that have been released during the massage. These neck massage techniques will help you relax and be a happier more centered being.

Every masseuse has their own style and uses different body massage techniques, and finding that perfect match to your own comfort and need is important. The benefits of massage are so great that it is shame more people do not indulge in this perfectly beautiful gift you can give your body and soul.

Massage Techniques:

1. Fan Stroking: Place your hands palm down on the side of the body. Smoothly slide upward, lean into it with a straight back. Fan your fingers out on both sides and slowly release the pressure. Glide them down the sides pulling them back to where you started and repeat.

2. Circular Stroking: A variation of fan stroking; both hands work on the same side at once. Have one side complete a full circle motion while the other completes a half. Great stroke to be used on a large surface like the back.

3. Thumb Stroking: Stroke firmly upward and out with your left thumb, then repeat with your right thumb slightly higher. Alternative movements using a rhythmic and steady pace.

4. Basic Kneading: Like kneading dough, do this flat and smooth, it is best on fleshy areas.

5. Circular Pressure: Apply light pressure with your thumbs, move in a circular motion while gradually increasing pressure. Slowly release the pressure and move to the next area, repeating the same motion each time.

6. Static Pressures: Good for releasing tension in the neck, back, shoulders and feet. Place thumbs on the skin, slowly lean in with more pressure, hold for 10 seconds then release and move to another area.

7. Cat Stroking: Place left hand at the top of the area, apply very light pressure and slowly glide down the body.

8.Knuckling: Make a fist and place the middle section of your fingers against the skin. Rotate your knuckles in small circles on the shoulders, chest, palms and feet. Apply deeply but without pain.

All of these body massage techniques can be used in combination or alone to reap the benefits of massage. If done on a regular basis you will feel rejuvenated and more alive. Your muscles will be relaxed and free of toxins and your body will function better. The mind body connection is a strong one, nurture it by taking care of your body and your mind and soul will live happily and healthily for years to come.
